Year 2

Welcome to Year Two

What a fantastic first term of learning we have had! Children have been so enthusiastic about the topics explored so far and we can’t wait to begin our new topics during the Spring Term.

The Year 2 staff will be Mrs Cooke, Mrs Pollard, Mrs Wilcox, Mrs Williamson and we will be welcoming Miss Rowe to the team.

Our first topic is History, we will be studying Aviation. During this topic we will be learning about the invention of the aeroplane, famous pilots and how flight has changed over time. We will be studying the Wright Brothers and will think about why they are considered significant Historic figures. Children will use role play and hot seating opportunities to become familiar with the Wright brothers and the events of the first aeroplane flight.

Our next topic is a Narrative unit with a focus on ‘Traction Man’ by Mini Grey. During this topic, children will become familiar with the key events of the text by using role play and sequencing strategies. They will explore the main character and use this knowledge to write a character description. Children will also have the opportunity to become authors as they innovate the narrative and write their own version of the original text. They will be focus on using a range of skills including use of adjectives, different sentence types and sentence openers.

In Maths, we will be learning about money, multiplication and division. We will continue to recap our place value knowledge, addition and subtraction skills by using problem solving scenarios.

PE

PE will take place on a Monday. Reminders about which days you need PE kit will be posted on Dojo.  During our sessions we will be looking at different ways to move and control our bodies during Ball Skills. Please make sure that your child comes into school wearing the correct PE kit. Long hair needs to be tied back. All earrings need to be removed before school.

Please send your child into school every day with a labelled water bottle and ensure that every item of clothing is clearly named.

The Year 2 staff are all very excited to continue this learning journey with the children and I am sure that we will have lots of amazing achievements during this next half term.

Thank you for your continued support.
