Welcome to Nursery!

Miss Reid is the nursery teacher and is assisted by Mrs Meakin and Mrs Lake who are our amazing Early Years Practitioners and Mrs Mashanga who is a fantastic Learning Support Assistants.

We would like to welcome you back after February half term.

In Nursery, we learn alongside the Development Matters. Throughout all of our work, the staff in Nursery will be assessing the children against the objectives outlined within this document and also use it to ensure that all individual needs are being met.

In Nursery, children will have daily Phonics (taught through Supersonic Phonic Friends) and Maths session in the morning and Topic sessions during the afternoon. Children are introduced to their new learning challenges in small groups. This is then further developed through child-initiated and facilitated learning that takes place throughout the day. Learning is promoted in both the indoor and outdoor environment.

During this term our topic is ‘I wonder what Jack found at the top of the beanstalk?’ and ‘I wonder how things grow’ We will be learning about growing and what is needed. The children will be making simple observations of things they grow. They will also be drawing / painting a flower, using their knowledge of colour mixing and then adding extra details.

During our Phonics sessions children will be continuing in Firm Foundations of Supersonic Phonic Friends. During this stage they will be focusing on alliteration.

Firstly, in maths the children will be exploring 3d shapes. Children will have the opportunity to explore 3d shapes by looking at their properties, being able to sort them and also finding out which are the best shapes for building. Secondly, the children will be learning about ordering by height and length.

The children will be learning about Mother’s Day and Easter. They will learn about the Easter story and why it is important to Christians. They will also complete a variety of activities to deeper their understanding.

This half term the children will be taking part in PE every Wednesday with Mrs Finch, focusing on gymnastic skills for example crawling, rolling and balancing and then dance.

Please ensure the children bring to school appropriate clothing such as jogging bottoms and black trainers, with their yellow school t-shirt. (see our uniform requirements for more information) If you need further information regarding clothing please contact a member of the Nursery team.

We look forward to a fun filled half term!
