Welcome to Autumn 2 in Nursery

Miss Reid is the nursery teachers and are assisted by Mrs Lake, Mrs Mashanga, Mrs Hodson-Ford and Miss Kat who the classes wonderful Learning Support Assistants.

This half term in Nursery the children will continue with daily Phonics (taught through Supersonic Phonic Friends) and Maths session in the morning and Topic sessions during the afternoon. Children are introduced to their new learning challenges in small groups. This is then further developed through child-initiated and facilitated learning that takes place throughout the day. Learning is promoted in both the indoor and outdoor environment.

During his half term our first topic will be ‘I wonder how things grow’. We will be reading the story ‘A seed in need’. The children will learn about what plants needs to grow. They will enjoy going planting seeds and watch them change as they grow.  The second topic is ‘I wonder what Jack found at the top of the beanstalk’. We will be learning about the season of spring planting beans and looking at what they need to help them grow.  During this Topic the children will read stories such as ‘Jack and the Beanstalk”

During our Phonics sessions children will continue Basic 1 of Supersonic Phonic Friends. The children will be focusing on Rhythm and Rhyme this half term.

In Maths children will be exploring numbers 3 and 4. The children will continue to learn to count in ones using different activities such as counting rhymes and stories. The children will continue to learn how to subitise, where they will learn the value of a number and what this looks like and how it can be represented.

The children will be learning about St Mary’s school value ‘Respect’. They will learn what Respect is, why it is important and how they can show Respect. They will complete a variety of activities to promote their understanding of Respect.

We will continue our outdoor learning afternoons ‘Dirt day Thursday’. Every Thursday afternoon the children spend time learning in the outdoor environment. They are given opportunities to explore, discover and take risks. Winter is an amazing time to explore outdoors as it has so many opportunities and changes that the children can see and experience.

Please ensure that children continue to bring to school appropriate clothing such as a puddle suit (see our uniform requirements for more information) jogging bottoms and wellies. If you need further information regarding clothing please contact a member of the Nursery team.

We look forward to another fun filled half term!

Thank you,
