Reading challenge

Welcome to St Mary's Reading Challenge!

Here at St Mary's we believe that reading is central to a child’s understanding of the school curriculum and is of vital importance in life. Fluent readers can access a full range of life experiences and can enjoy an amazing breadth of genres and writers.

At St Mary's, we aim to develop a love and appreciation of reading which will stay with children for life. We hope to achieve this through careful planning and teaching using up-to-date strategies. In doing so, we have come up with a termly 'Reading Challenge'. This is where each year group has set out 5 key texts to support the children during the term. We are aware that some younger children may not be able to read the books for themselves but encourage parents/carers to share the book with their children to enable them to develop their comprehension skills, listening and attention and communication and language. We hope that the children will take on the challenge to receive a reward at the end of each term!

Good luck children and happy reading! 📚📚📚
