Welcome to Autumn 2 in Nursery

We would like to welcome you back after February half term.
In Nursery, we learn alongside the Development Matters. Throughout all of our work, the staff in Nursery will be assessing the children against the objectives outlined within this document and also use it to ensure that all individual needs are being met.
In Nursery, children will have daily Phonics (taught through Supersonic Phonic Friends) and Maths session in the morning and Topic sessions during the afternoon. Children are introduced to their new learning challenges in small groups. This is then further developed through child-initiated and facilitated learning that takes place throughout the day. Learning is promoted in both the indoor and outdoor environment.
During this term our topic is ‘I wonder if countries are different?’ We will be learning about another country. The children will understand the similarities and differences about living in another country and the different traditions and celebrations.
During our Phonics sessions children will be continuing in Firm Foundations of Supersonic Phonic Friends. During this stage they will be focusing on alliteration.
Firstly, in maths the children will be exploring routes and directions. Secondly, they will move onto developing their knowledge and understanding about pattern. Thirdly, the children will be learning about subitising and comparing numbers.
The children will be learning about Mother’s Day and Easter. They will learn about the Easter story and why it is important to Christians. They will also complete a variety of activities to deeper their understanding.
At St Mary’s outdoor learning in very important to us, nursery promote this by taking part in ‘Dirt Day Thursday’. Every Thursday afternoon children spend time learning in the outdoor environment. They are given opportunities to explore, discover and take risks.
Please ensure the children bring to school appropriate clothing such as jogging bottoms and black trainers, with their yellow school t-shirt. (see our uniform requirements for more information) If you need further information regarding clothing please contact a member of the Nursery team.
We look forward to a fun filled half term!
