Nursery

Welcome to Nursery!

We would like to welcome you back after Easter.

In Nursery, we learn alongside the Development Matters. Throughout all of our work, the staff in Nursery will be assessing the children against the objectives outlined within this document and also use it to ensure that all individual needs are being met.

In Nursery, children will have daily Phonics (taught through Supersonic Phonic Friends) and Maths session in the morning and Topic sessions during the afternoon. Children are introduced to their new learning challenges in small groups. This is then further developed through child-initiated and facilitated learning that takes place throughout the day. Learning is promoted in both the indoor and outdoor environment.

During this term our topic are ‘I wonder what my favourite fairy tale will be?’ and ‘I wonder how things changes?’ We will be reading and learning about different fairy tales and parts of a book. In the second part of the half term the children will be looking a frog and caterpillar life cycles.

During our Phonics sessions children will be continuing in Firm Foundations of Supersonic Phonic Friends. During this stage they will be focusing on alliteration.

In maths the children will be continuing to learn about subitising and comparing numbers. Then, they will move onto developing their knowledge and understanding about numbers to five.

The children will be learning about St Mary’s school value ‘Endeavour’. They will learn what endeavour is and why it is important. They will complete a variety of activities to promote their understanding of Endeavour.

This half term the children will be taking part in ‘Dirt Day Thursday’. The children will spend the afternoon exploring the outdoors and developing their interests and physical skills in a range of exciting activities.

Please ensure the children bring to school appropriate clothing such as jogging bottoms and black trainers, with their yellow school t-shirt. (see our uniform requirements for more information) If you need further information regarding clothing please contact a member of the Nursery team.

We look forward to a fun filled half term!
