In year 3, children are taught by Ms Begum and Mrs. Pollard. Teaching and learning is supported by Mrs. Shufflebothom and Miss Kettle.

During the Autumn term, in Geography, children will focus on human settlements, learn about differences between rural and urban areas, look at land use and begin to understand how some of these uses have changed and developed over time. They will carry out fieldwork, and write a persuasive leaflet about Tunstall.

In Science, children will explore forces and magnets, and light and shadows. They will look at forces, such as friction, carry out fair tests, explore magnets and identify some magnetic and non-magnetic materials. They will also look at light sources, sun safety and explore shadows. Through these topics, children will make predictions, carry out investigations and write reports.

In Mathematics, children will focus on place value, and add and subtract 2- and 3-digit numbers by ones, tens and hundreds. They will also use more formal methods to add together and to subtract two 2/3-digit numbers, which will lead into solving word problems.

In RE, children will explore the following question - What is it like to follow God? They will make clear links between the story of Noah and the idea of a covenant. This will lead into making simple links between promises in the story of Noah and promises that Christians make at a wedding ceremony.

Our PE day is every Wednesday.  Please make sure that children come to school in their PE kit, every Wednesday. All earrings need to be removed before school so that children can take part in PE lessons. In PE, children will be taking part in dance sessions delivered by a dance teacher.

Homework

All children have been given passwords for Read theory accounts and Rockstars times-tables - please ensure that your child goes onto these and completes some of the activities. Please also listen to your child read at least three times a week. Once you have heard them read, question them about what they have read. This is a good way of developing an understanding of the text.
